Rant of the Day – November 2, 2009

2 11 2009

Every year I swear to myself I’m going to get my Christmas shopping done in November. I know I have lots of time but all the stores already have all their Christmas merchandise out and I’m starting to freak out. How much time do I have until Christmas, almost two months? I can’t help but feel the crunch and it’s all because the stores put out their decorations too early. It affects my life in other ways too. My kids constantly pester my husband and I to put up the Christmas lights outside the house. We have a house in the neighborhood that put theirs up and lit them in August. Not to mention those Christmas lists, the kids have a hundred things on them that they want me to memorize. They adults drive me crazy, they never tell me what they want until two days before Christmas. I send e-mails, I call and it’s always responded with, “Let me think about it.”

I wouldn’t feel this pressure if the stores weren’t jumping the gun on the Christmas rush.

I already feel like I’m behind. Wasn’t it Halloween just the night before last?

Rant of the Day – October 31, 2009

31 10 2009

My daily rant is about conpiracy theorists. Mainly the ones who have alternative governmental conspiracy theories about the collapse of the World Trade Center towers 1,2 and 7 on September 11, 2001. I figure that most of the people who have dedicated websites, blogs and videos about “911 conspiracy” either have a mental illness, just in it for the money. I’ll explain why I feel this way.

YouTube

Most of the conspiracy theory videos I’ve seen are on YouTube. They’re made by people who might sound like they know what they are talking about but in the end don’t have a rational facts to back up their argument. The proof to this is in the comments section. Listed are comments from many conspiracy believers and more often than not they don’t make any sense at all or can’t spell whatsoever. How am I supposed to take that seriously.

Rational Thinking vs. Irrational Thinking

I’ll admit they’re a pet peeve. Stupid people I mean. They believe anyone who says anything on the internet about their version of the facts of 911 yet how many of them took the time to read the report on 911? Alright I’m guessing the conspiracy theorist would debunk anything the government would publish but has their ever once been any tangible proof ever in history of a real governmental conspiracy to kill Americans by American leaders? I mean proof, not theories or proof that has disappeared.

If this issue is important to you to proof or disprove, one must educate one’s self to examine all angles of the argument.  I would rather listen to a proper structural engineer on his opinions of what happened on that dreadful day than someone on the internet that claims he knows the truth.

Not to mention Osama Bin Laden took responsibility for 911, why would he do that if he didn’t do it? Because he was in on the whole ‘Bush Conspiracy’? Speaking of George W. Bush, the man could handle anything in his job, how the world would he be able to pull off the work it would take for 911? All that manpower and no one talked? Nixon couldn’t even break into a hotelroom in 1972 without everyone finding out, how would Bush kill thousands without any governmental blabbing or documentation.

I’m wondering if conspiracy theorist have a psychological problem dealing with the fact that really bad people can kill us at anytime. I believe the guilty should be blamed, not the make-believe guilty.

Remember anyone can make anything sound good if you choose to believe it.

From one son to the other. Why is it that my 10-year-old, fifth grader doesn’t know his times tables? I mastered them in Grade 3 and I’m not a genius in any way. I’ve given my son math workbooks and even a $50 muliplication tables computer game but when he makes headway the math curriculum seems to change.  Last week the long division nightmare ended but left him with almost having the tables memorized. Now they are studying patterning.  I fear that my son will forget. Now I know I’m confusing but bear with me, my rant is with the… Ministry of Education!

This ‘No Child Left Behind’ law is the pits.  My oldest child is 18 and most of his friends can barely read and I’m not exaggerating. My son was the only kid he knew that passed the High School Literacy test on the first try.  That’s because I’ve tutored him at home. I think if I left it to the school he’d be illiterate. Mind you my son has ADHD and he should’ve been failed back in elementary school because he never did any work.  He knew he would pass his grade regardless. Back in the old days we were scare to fail so therefore we worked harder. The children of today have no incentive to do any work and it shows in their lack of effort.  The quality of Canada’s education system is lower that other countries and we don’t seem to care. I don’t mean slightly behind either, years behind.

Let’s face it, many of the world’s children are smarter than ours.

H1N1 – Vaccination or Not?

One day I want to get my kids vaccinated and the next I’m dead set against it.  This coming Monday H1N1 vaccinations begin for the everyday risk masses and I don’t know what to do. Yesterday I didn’t want to do it because the vaccine hasn’t been around long and I don’t usually do the flushot thing anyway but that changed this morning.  Thirteen-year-old Evan Frustaglio of Toronto, Ontario died of H1N1. Evan was a very healthy teen who played hockey and quickly feel ill from the virus. His father had taken him to a clinic but Evan’s symptoms were mild so there was no concern. Evan had a low-grade fever and was told to rest at home. Less than 48 hours later Evan collapsed as his father helped him out of his bath. The virus had affected his heart. He was later pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s hospital in Toronto.

Evan’s father, Paul Frustaglio stated that the family was planning to get the vaccination when it became available next week and strongly urged all parents to have their children vaccinated. I can’t not imagine the horror this poor family feels after losing their son.

Now for my rant…who are we to believe, our doctor, the nay-saying media, or our nay-saying friends?  Is there any legitimate reason for not getting this vaccination?  What are the legitimate proven dangers? I’m tired of hearsay. Please someone tell me what the right thing to do is here!  It’s my understanding that the American H1N1 vaccination program started already. If so, what statistics are there about any bad reactions to the vaccine?

I couldn’t live with myself if one of my kids died because I didn’t allow a vaccination.
